Understanding the impact of dividend modeling on equity derivatives prices and greeks.

Abstract:

The presentation first analyses the history of realized and implied dividends up to the recent crisis. Then various dividend models are presented with their pros and cons. The impact of most standard models on delta and implied volatility is explained, using the difference between Spot and Forward (Black-Scholes) volatility. Formulas to get spot volatility from forward volatilities are quickly reviewed, and a new one is proposed based on Piterbarg results, which can be used to extend various hybrid or stochastic vol models to cash dividends. The presentation concludes with explaining the impact of dividend models on the price of most standard exotic derivatives.

About the speaker:

Nicolas Grandchamp des Raux is a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique and ENSAE. After a brief stint as an academic researcher at New York University with Marco Avellaneda, he joined Paribas in 1999, and later BNP Paribas, where he worked as equity and fund derivatives quant. He moved to HSBC in 2004 as the Global Head of Equity Derivatives Quant Team.
